Humanitarian Malaak Compton-Rock's vision for a social system that recognizes the needs of all, her work and overall concern for the issues that affect our country and her vision to seek a global village that includes everyone, regardless of circumstance makes her an outstanding recipient for the 2009 Soledad O'Brien Freedom's Voice Award.
-During the gala, Community Voices and the Morehouse School of Medicine will also announce their progress towards securing a $5 million endowment for an Endowed Program in Health Policy. The money, to be raised over the next three years through donor sponsorships of Freedom's Voice events, will fund a Health Policy Program Chair, two Post-Graduate Fellowships, and future Freedom's Voice conferences.

About the Soledad O'Brien Award
CNN anchor and special correspondent Soledad O'Brien was the first recipient of the Soledad O'Brien Freedom's Voice Award, an award created in her honor by Community Voices of Morehouse School of Medicine to recognize outstanding catalysts for social change.
"The Soledad O'Brien Freedom's Voice Award reflects the courage, integrity, and excellence of the woman whose work has inspired it," said Dr. John E. Maupin, President of the Morehouse School of Medicine. "Ms. O'Brien's accomplishments in her field, her commitment to cover stories that might otherwise go untold, and her steadfast willingness to be a voice for those in our society who are unseen and unheard set a high standard."
