From L-R: Dr. Paul Farmer, Dr. Henrie Treadwell, Dr. David Satcher, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta
|
From August 18-20, 2004, Community Voices and the National Center for Primary Care brought together some of the nation's thought and policy leaders for a meeting aimed at structuring a new paradigm of health care in the United States. Filled with rich presentations and dynamic discussions of the issues, the three-day summit, "Healthcare in a Multicultural Society," was anchored by a keynote address delivered by Dr. Paul Farmer, a physician and medical anthropologist known internationally for his work providing medical services to some of the world's poorest regions, particularly in Haiti. CNN senior medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta further elevated the discussion by engaging Dr. Farmer in a Q&A session.
Below is the agenda for the meeting, with links to presentations. View a photo gallery of the meeting and listen to audio excerpts of key presentations.
