Community Voices is making a significant contribution to understanding the health workforce challenges facing communities, advancing recommendations for change, and implementing solutions. Working with Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) on the project, Preparing the Health Workforce of the Future: Community Voices Service-Learning Partnerships, Community Voices sites are working to facilitate and strengthen partnerships with nearby colleges and universities, and to articulate the role of communities in achieving a competent, diverse health workforce.
Community Voices Miami sees a natural fit for the Community Voices initiative to be the bridge between the "field" and the university. One example of this fit is the Community Health Outreach Worker model. These outreach workers serve in the roles of "natural helpers, natural researchers, and as advocates for their communities," helping the patients they serve navigate the health care system. Community Voices Miami is working with communities to help provide training for these individuals, and to connect them to educational opportunities that capitalize on their experience, knowledge and interest.
